In 1951 Norwin and Shirley Heimos started Sappington Market located off of Gravois dsvdvfroad. He built his first quonset in 1952.  In 1973, Norwin purchased the Eddie & Park facility which focuses on indoor blooming crops and Micky’s Minis miniature plants.  The company quickly grew and in 1985 Norwin purchased the existing greenhouses in Millstadt, Illinois.  As the years flew by the company kept expanding.  Now the once small Heimos Greenhouses has bloomed into the parent company of Millstadt Greenhouses, Millstadt Young Plants, and numerous retail outlets.  After 63 years, the company encompasses over 2 million square feet in production space.

Millstadt Greenhouses produces year round seasonal crops for its retail customers.  It combines 10 ranges: AA, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and BB (our perennial quonsets).

Our propagation facility was built in 2001.  It is home to Millstadt Young Plants which propagates rooted cutting for our own Root ‘n Sell business for Ball/Selecta, Syngenta and in-house production, and a rooting station for Dummen.

Millstadt Gardens is one of our four retail outlets.  The store shares production space in our AA range during the spring and winter and also is home to our Poinsettia Trials.

Over time a new generation has taken interest in Norwin’s dream. Six out of nine of his children and four of his grandchildren are now working to secure the future of Heimos Greenhouses and its subsidiaries.
